Use this to compare quotes side by side. Tick each point off for every quote you receive, and ask the professional about anything that isn't clear. Price is one thing to weigh among several.
1. Your needs and usage
- The quote reflects the rooms or areas you want to heat or cool.
- It reflects how and when you use those spaces.
- Anything specific you asked for is noted.
2. System model, capacity and sizing rationale
- The make, model and capacity are stated for each unit.
- The quote explains why that capacity suits your space.
- The location of indoor and outdoor units is identified.
3. Installation scope
- It is clear what the installation includes.
- It is clear what is not included.
- Removal of any existing equipment is addressed, if relevant.
4. Electrical work
- The quote says whether any electrical work is needed.
- It says who arranges that work and whether it is included in the price.
5. Ducting, zoning and controls (where applicable)
- For ducted systems, the ducting layout is described.
- The number of zones, and how they are controlled, is described.
- The controls you will use day to day are described.
6. Total price, GST, allowances and exclusions
- The total price is clear and states whether GST is included.
- Any allowances are explained.
- Exclusions are listed.
7. Energy use and assumptions
- Energy efficiency information for the system is provided.
- Any running-cost estimate states the assumptions behind it.
8. Professional credentials
- Relevant licence and ARCtick details are shown.
- Insurance details are shown.
9. Equipment and installation warranties
- The warranty on the equipment is stated, including its length.
- The warranty on the installation work is stated, including its length.
- It is clear who provides each warranty.
10. Commissioning and handover
- The system will be tested once installed.
- You will be shown how to use it.
- It is clear what paperwork you will receive.
11. Timing, payment and changes
- The proposed timing is stated.
- The payment schedule, including any deposit, is stated.
- It is clear how changes to the scope or price are handled.
- The period the quote is valid for is stated.
